Hi, I’m Samantha, and I want to officially welcome you to Fairy Tails — Colchester, CT’s newest enrichment-based dog daycare. This business is so much more than just a place for dogs to spend their days; it’s a dream I’ve been building, a labor of love, and a way to create something magical not just for dogs, but for their families too.
Opening Fairy Tails has been a journey shaped by my lifelong love of dogs, a career twist I didn’t see coming, and a deep belief that our pets deserve the very best. I wanted to share a little bit of my story with you — because Fairy Tails isn’t just another daycare. It’s personal.
How It All Began
I’ve always loved dogs. They’ve been a constant source of joy, comfort, and companionship in my life. But the spark for Fairy Tails didn’t ignite until a conversation with a neighbor in my very own building.
Deb, the owner of Wizard of Paws, was planning an expansion of her animal rehabilitation center. She wanted to create a hub for pet care by adding a chiropractor, a groomer, and a veterinarian. So, it only made sense to add one more piece of the puzzle — a dog daycare. A place where pets could play, socialize, and thrive while their parents went about their busy days or have a place to stay after their appointment downstairs.
At the same time, I had just faced a big turning point in my own career. After being let go from my corporate job, I found myself unemployed and facing closed doors at every turn. No matter how many conversations I had or industries I reached out to, nothing seemed to click. It was a scary and uncertain time — but also one that opened my eyes.
Instead of waiting for another opportunity to come my way, I realized I could create one. A scary thought at first, and prepared for a lot of hard work, but the idea of becoming a business owner felt like the right next step. And when I looked at my dogs, Callie and Bandit, I knew exactly what kind of business I wanted to build.
Callie, Bandit, and the “Why” Behind Fairy Tails
If you’re a dog parent, you know the bittersweet feeling of leaving your pup at home while you head to work. I always hated it — seeing Callie and Bandit watching out the window, waiting for me to come back. The Furbo camera became a double-edged sword: it gave me comfort to check in on them, but it also broke my heart to see them just waiting, lonely and bored.
These two dogs aren’t just pets — they’re my dream dogs. And every day with them reminds me how fleeting time can be. I wanted more than anything to make sure they lived full, happy, enriched lives. And I knew I wasn’t the only one who felt this way.
That’s where the heart of Fairy Tails comes from: giving dogs a place where they can use their brains, stretch their legs, socialize with friends, and have fun. A place where pet parents can feel confident their pups are safe, loved, and cared for — so those evening snuggles at home are even sweeter.

The Story Behind the Name
Fairy Tails isn’t just a cute play on words — though we love the wagging tails and touch of magic it suggests. The name carries a sentimental piece of my family’s story.
My mom, Janet Naples, once owned a small business right here in Colchester called Fairy Tales Formal Wear & Bridal Boutique. When it came time to name my daycare, it was a no-brainer. Using “Fairy Tails” feels like bringing a little piece of her spirit into something I’m excited to pour my heart into. Every time I see the name, I feel connected to her and proud to carry on a piece of her legacy.
Adding My Own Creative Touch
Beyond my love of dogs, I’ve always had a creative streak. From a young age, art was my passion — which led me to technical high school for graphic technology and later to earning my bachelor’s degree in graphic design.
That creative spirit has found its way into Fairy Tails, too. From designing an inviting space to dreaming up fun enrichment activities, I love finding ways to make our daycare feel special. I’m also a big fan of crafting and baking — so don’t be surprised if you see unique handmade items or homemade dog treats pop up as part of our offerings. My goal is to make Fairy Tails not just a service, but an experience you and your pup will remember.
